Birthdate? July 3rd, 1961 When did you start CrossFit? I started CF in 2010. Were you exercising before CF? If so, tell us about your typical workout. I have always done some form of exercise. I played mens league recreation basketball and pick up games twice a week through my mid 40′s. I have always been a runner, too. I then progressed the the normal globo gym (GiGis , Dymamic) after ending basketball. I started CF in Sulphur because the gym was boring and CF was the new thing. They shut down and that’s when I came to CFLC. What was your very first CF workout? I don’t remember my very first CF workout but I do remember an early workout. It was 100 burpee pullups. That was one of two times ( again at Open 14.5) that I wanted to quit and asked myself “what the hell are you doing this for?”. Describe that experience in three words. When did you start CrossFit? I started in May of 2012. I met Ashley and saw all these strange people running around downtown carrying medicine balls. My curiosity got the best of me and I wanted to check it out. Then I was at my old gym one day and I ran into an old friend and he was in great shape. He told me he was one of those crazy med ball runners, so I joined. I soon became one of the weird people running around downtown with a medicine ball. Were you exercising before CF? If so, tell us about your typical workout. I was exercising but I had a much different exercise routine. I worked out about 3 or 4 times a week doing circuit workouts. I’d do a leg day, a chest and tri day, and a back and bi day. I would sprinkle in some ab workouts. I did a couple of the local boot camps and I was very active in sports, which I considered my cardio. I never felt like I was getting enough out of my workouts.   When did you start CrossFit? I started in September 2013. I don’t think I’ve ever been so intimidated and nervous as the day I walked into the box, but I am so glad I did. I didn’t know a single soul. I had a friend that loved crossfit, but her box was in a location that didn’t work for me. I went back and forth between choosing the downtown LC box (where I work) and the Sulphur box (where I live). I definitely made the right choice! Were you exercising before CF? If so, tell us about your typical workout. Nope – I was a total couch potato! I was active in high school and college. It all went downhill when I started working full time and was spending 40-60 hours a week at a desk. I gained about 30 pounds and became pretty inactive while studying for the CPA exam, which ate up another 30 hours a week. What was your very first CF workout? 150 wall balls for time. When did you start CrossFit? My very first class after I finished fundamentals was on December 26, 2014. I personally knew two people who had started not long before and had nothing but awesome things to say about CrossFit. I have tried so many things in the past to get in shape and failed. Joining was the best decision I have ever made for my health. Were you exercising before CF? If so, tell us about your typical workout. I was only exercising off and on. I have a treadmill at home and would get on a good two week regimen and then for whatever reason I would quit until maybe a month later. It was a very bad cycle. I would jog off and on as much as I could in a 20-30 minute time span. If I could work my way up to jogging 1 mile straight I thought I was doing great. When did you start CrossFit and why? In July 2013 I had an ankle surgery, and then in August of that year, I spent 5 days in intensive care with blood clots in my lungs and legs.  The combination kept me sidelined for a while and my weight began to skyrocket.  Around October 2013, my dentist (and wife), Michelle started going to CrossFit.  I was jealous that she was being so active, but I was concerned that strenuous exercise might affect the clots and so I just stayed on the couch eating fried chicken and pizza and feeling sorry for myself because none of my clothes fit.  In January, I broke down and bought some new dress pants.  I refused to go bigger than a 44 inch waist, so the tailor had to take them out 2 inches, and then add extra fabric in the inseam so that they would fit.  Right after that, I went on a hunting trip and came back feeling really fat and miserable.  I weighed myself that day and found myself at an all-time high of 297 pounds.  That was one of the lowest moments of my life.  The next day, I checked with the doctors…

When did you start CrossFit and why? I started Crossfit in Nov., 2012 as a birthday gift to myself for my 55th. I wanted a challenge and better results for my time investment. Were you exercising before CF? If so, tell us about your typical workout. Prior to beginning Crossfit I exercised regularly with biking, circuit training, walking, swimming, dancing, body pump, spinning, and cardio machines for almost 14 yrs. What was your very first CF workout? I don’t recall my first Crossfit class, but well remember the 2nd. We waited outside for the coach, and an impatient classmate said, “lets just start a class while waiting”. And, we were off! I believe it was lunges, squats, then running to a coaches house and started the remainder of several other FUN exercises. I remember witnessing Sarah Blanchard jumping up on a goal post and she started doing pullups. I thought, DAAAAYUM, I WANNA DO THAT! Describe that experience in three words.   When did you start CrossFit? I started CrossFit in September of 2011, after 3.5 years of travel nursing. One weekend while home visiting I went to lunch with my sister (who is Rebecca for those who don’t know or can’t tell). I remember her having a huge gash and gaping wound on her shin. So obviously I asked what happened. She told me she fell jumping on boxes at CrossFit. I vividly remember thinking…what kind of sick satanic place do you work out at?!? Jumping on plywood boxes??! I asked if she stopped her workout when she fell, and she very matter-of-factly told me” No!” The coaches asked if she was ok and she carried on. What was wrong with her?!? Who knew a year later I’d be going to that very same satanic place and bustin’ up my shins on those same boxes!  My coworker, Traci, also pushed me to join.  I had worked with her for years and knew if she was this passionate about it, there must be something to it. When did you start CrossFit? I started CrossFit in February 2012. I had set a “New Years Resolution” (typical) to lose some weight after visiting my Family Doctor. The lab work showed High Blood Pressure/High Cholesterol and I weighed in at 260lbs at age 32. I felt sluggish, short winded, depressed, and miserable with the way I had let my self go. My co-worker and friend John Morris had been mentioning to me (pretty regular) about this stuff called “CrossFit”; how kick ass it is and how it would whip me into shape. I finally built up the courage to go check this place out. When I walked in the door I saw these people doing these weird pull-ups, yelling at each other, sweat puddles all over the floor, and a ton of motivation, I’ll admit I was a little intimidated but I knew I was hooked and wanted in on this…… That was until my “Base Line.” I thought to myself, “yeah yeah 500m row, this that piece of cake.” HA HA boy was I wrong. When did you start CrossFit? Back in the day when my ass was sagging…..my punches couldn’t knock my boyfriend out….and my aggression was killing poor innocent victims. Were you exercising before CF? If so, tell us about your typical workout. Side bends and sit-ups….Jazzercising the nights away….spinning on toy bikes….and cross country skiing towards a light box (that’s a tv to some of you weirdos). What was your very first CF workout? May 2012 Athlete of the Month

When did you start CrossFit? I started CrossFit in October of 2011 after being inspired by my wife Angela. The results she was experiencing from joining the box were astounding and her energy and strength was nothing short of contagious. After beating around the bush for about two months I finally got around to finishing my fundamentals and had slogged through a half dozen WODs. Sometime around day 60 of half assed effort I began to understand the effort Angela was putting in and resolved to “get with the program”. It has been the primary lesson, “you have to do the work”. I have since learned to expect no more than I am willing to put into it. I cannot say that I always enjoy going to the box, but I can say that I always enjoy the rewards of putting in a solid effort. When did you start CrossFit?  July 2010. My husband , Mitch, started CF with the L.C.P.D. Swat team, and he knew I’d love it. He convinced me to come watch a WOD one Friday. By Monday I was doing my fundamentals. It was everything I could do to keep from screaming at people (rooting them on) during their workout (that Friday) ….I knew I was hooked! I mean, who thinks to YELL at a room full of SWAT officers?? Lol. That’s when I knew CrossFit was different. Were you exercising before CF? If so, tell us about your typical workout. Yes. I was doing the typical gym workout…30-45min of cardio then weights 5x week or so….BORING! Lol! I was spending 2hrs+ a day at the gym and probably hadn’t made any headway in 2yrs or so. When did you start Crossfit? I believe it was November of this past year…..so I’ve been doing CrossFit for approximately 9 months. Were you exercising before CrossFit? I was. I had a membership at GiGi’s like everyone else for about a year. Was fairly good about going as well, at least as much as I come to CrossFit, and saw exactly “0” results….though I did get really good at watching TV while riding a bike. I’ll never forget, after my initial baseline, speaking to John about how I still had a couple months on my contract at GiGi’s and asking him what I should be doing at the gym while I was doubled up on my membership. He said, “I hear they have really nice showers.” No lack of smart asses at CrossFit. (laughing) Tell us about your typical workout while you were over there. Honestly, I made it up as I went along, but basically I followed the old routine I learned in high school, which had been the last time I worked out before I started up at GiGi’s. When did you start CrossFit?  I started CFLC in late December 2010. My sister-in-law Sarah had joined in June and after seeing the results that she was getting and how much she loved it, I knew I had to try it out. Were you exercising before CF? If so, tell us about your typical workout. I wasn’t really exercising at all, other than the occasional use of my elliptical machine and running around with my kids, 6 and 7. I’ve never been a member of any gym. The only workouts I’ve ever done were associated with high school sports teams years ago. I was seriously out of shape. What was your very first CF workout? My first workout was a 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 reps of something, maybe push presses. I really don’t remember and it’s not the one that’s gonna stick with me anyway. When did you start CrossFit? March 24th 2010 Were you exercising before CF? If so, tell us about your typical workout. I ran regularly. It used to be six miles three times a week. I had to cut it down to three miles in the last ten years. Back issues finally brought it all to a stop about three years ago. When I lived in California, I also worked with Cybex equipment. Since I’ve moved to Louisiana I’ve been participating in cardio rehab at LCMH. What was your very first CF workout?My first WOD was on March 29th. I did 10 OHS, 4 ring push ups, 10 side bridges, 50 pull ups and 20 burpees Describe that experience in three words. Pull ups = killer. Burpees = killer. Everything else = killer. When did you start CrossFit? July 2010 Were you exercising before CF? If so, tell us about your typical workout. I was not exercising. I was an athlete my whole life but, after having kids, I was so busy that I thought that part of my life was over. I was unrecognizable to myself before CrossFit. I thought of myself as an out of shape, stay-at-home mom. Trapped in a body that did not belong to me. What was your very first CF workout? My first WOD was “Kelly”. REALITY CHECK!!!! I was more out of shape than I thought. Describe that experience in three words. Blew My Mind What is your favorite CF exercise? I think my favorite exercise would have to be running. It is what comes most naturally to me. Your least favorite? BURPEES!!! I loathe burpees and I am currently doing a personal 100 day burpee challenge. Maybe by the end I’ll like them!
