A little jumpin swingin fun

What is intensity for you? How do you define it? Relative Intensity is, in my opinion much more important to what we do in CrossFit. Knowing when and where and how to approach intensity is one key element to longevity in what we do. For ex: Which is more important for a beginning CrossFitter...to perform an entire 20 minute AMRAP and see a drastic drop in intensity in the last 8 minutes or instead do a 12 minute AMRAP and maintain a higher power output? How do you determine what is best for YOU? Weigh in, what do you think?

hmm...I like this...I LOVE intensity...in many aspects of my life. Crossfit is DEFINITELY one of them smile If you ask me, there's only one way to "approach" intensity...HEAD ON smile I definitely like the idea of allowing one to contribute to a WOD at 100% for a shorter duration than burning out. I also believe there's a huge mental impact on the level of intensity. Too much, or too little...both could be detrimental. Finding a balance, I believe, is possible the most challenging. WORD!

I think as it applies to this question, what the persons goals are. But for me, I want to be going full intensity for the duration of the workout....if I can. So a slightly shorter time at a higher intensity works for me.

12 minute AMRAP and maintain a higher power output anyday.

I'd be inclined to think the 12min AMRAP at a higher power output would be much better for a beginner CFer...a serious drop in intensity for the last 8 min of a 20min AMRAP can be defeating mentally. For some, that can be a driving force that challenges them to push to be better but for the majority it is just discouraging.
